Decoding Nutraceutical Formulations: A Deep Dive into Ingredient Solutions
In the ever-evolving landscape of health and wellness, nutraceuticals have emerged as powerful allies in promoting well-being and preventing disease. These products, straddling the line between food and pharmaceuticals, offer a range of benefits derived from their bioactive ingredients. This blog will delve into the intricacies of nutraceutical formulations, exploring the key ingredients that make them effective and the science behind their benefits.
Understanding Nutraceuticals
Nutraceuticals encompass a broad spectrum of products, including dietary supplements, functional foods, and medical foods. They are designed to provide health benefits beyond basic nutrition. Key to their effectiveness are the bioactive compounds they contain, which can positively influence various physiological functions.
Key Ingredients in Nutraceutical Formulations
1. Vitamins and Minerals
Vitamins: Essential for numerous bodily functions, vitamins play a crucial role in maintaining health. They support immune function, energy production, and skin health. Common vitamins in nutraceuticals include vitamins A, C, D, E, and the B-complex vitamins.
Minerals: Vital for various metabolic processes, minerals help in bone health, fluid balance, and muscle function. Key minerals found in nutraceuticals include calcium, magnesium, zinc, and iron.
2. Herbal Extracts
Turmeric (Curcuma longa): Known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, has been studied for its potential in managing conditions like arthritis and metabolic syndrome.
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera): An adaptogen that helps the body manage stress, improve cognitive function, and boost energy levels.
3. Probiotics and Prebiotics
Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species: These beneficial bacteria support gut health, enhance digestion, and boost the immune system.
Inulin: A prebiotic fibre that promotes the growth of healthy gut bacteria and improves digestive health.
4. Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Found in fish oil and flaxseed oil, omega-3 fatty acids like EPA and DHA are crucial for heart health, reducing inflammation, and supporting brain function.
5. Amino Acids
L-Theanine: Commonly found in tea, it promotes relaxation without drowsiness and can improve focus and cognitive performance.
Branched-Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs): Valine, leucine, and isoleucine support muscle growth, reduce exercise fatigue, and improve recovery.
The Science Behind Nutraceuticals
The efficacy of nutraceuticals is grounded in scientific research. Here's a closer look at how some key ingredients work:
Curcumin: Studies have shown that curcumin modulates multiple cell signalling pathways, which helps in reducing inflammation and oxidative stress. Its bioavailability is a challenge, often addressed by formulations like liposomal curcumin or curcumin combined with piperine, which enhances absorption.
Probiotics: Research indicates that probiotics help maintain a healthy balance of gut microbiota, which is crucial for digestion, immune function, and even mental health. Different strains of probiotics confer different benefits, making strain specificity an important factor in formulation.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Numerous studies have documented the cardioprotective effects of omega-3s, including lowering triglycerides, reducing the risk of arrhythmias, and slowing the growth of atherosclerotic plaques.
Challenges in Nutraceutical Formulation
Formulating effective nutraceuticals involves overcoming several challenges:
1. Bioavailability: Ensuring that the active ingredients are adequately absorbed by the body is crucial. Techniques like nanoencapsulation and the use of bioenhancers are employed to improve bioavailability.
2. Stability: Some bioactive compounds are sensitive to light, heat, or oxygen. Stabilizing these ingredients to maintain their efficacy throughout the product's shelf life is essential.
3. Dosage: Determining the optimal dosage that provides health benefits without adverse effects requires extensive research and clinical trials.
Conclusion
Decoding nutraceutical formulations reveals the intricate balance between science and innovation required to develop products that truly benefit health. By understanding the role of key ingredients and the science behind their actions, consumers can make informed choices and harness the full potential of nutraceuticals for their well-being. Zeon Lifesciences, a leader in the nutraceutical industry, specializes in innovative ingredient solutions for effective formulations. How to Determine the Best Liquid Multivitamin: A Comprehensive Guide
In today's bustling world, taking care of our health is paramount. A reliable way to support our well-being is by incorporating a high-quality liquid multivitamin into our daily routine. However, with the plethora of options available, it can be challenging to discern which product truly stands out as the best liquid multivitamin. Here, we will explore key factors to consider in order to make an informed decision.
· Understanding the Benefits of Liquid Multivitamins
Before diving into the selection process, let's first understand why liquid multivitamins are gaining popularity. Liquid supplements offer distinct advantages over their pill counterparts, including easier absorption, faster assimilation into the bloodstream, and improved bioavailability. The liquid form allows for superior nutrient absorption, making it an ideal choice for individuals with digestive issues or difficulty swallowing pills.
· Assessing Ingredients and Nutrient Profile
When evaluating the best liquid multivitamin, carefully scrutinize its ingredient list and nutrient profile. Look for a comprehensive blend of essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that support overall health and address your specific needs. The product should provide adequate amounts of key nutrients such as vitamins A, C, D, E, B-complex vitamins, calcium, magnesium, and zinc. Avoid products with excessive fillers, artificial additives, or unnecessary ingredients.
· Quality Standards and Manufacturing Practices
To ensure the best liquid multivitamin, it's crucial to consider the brand's quality standards and manufacturing practices. Look for products manufactured by reputable companies that adhere to strict quality control measures, such as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification. These certifications indicate that the product undergoes rigorous testing to ensure potency, purity, and safety. Additionally, prioritize brands that source their ingredients from trusted suppliers and emphasize sustainability and ethical practices.
· Bioavailability and Absorption Rate
One of the primary advantages of liquid multivitamins is their superior bioavailability and absorption rate. Seek out products that utilize high-quality, bioavailable forms of vitamins and minerals, such as methylated B-vitamins or chelated minerals. These forms are more readily absorbed and utilized by the body, ensuring optimal nutrient delivery and utilization. Consider the presence of bioenhancers or absorption-boosting ingredients like black pepper extract (piperine) or liposomal delivery systems that can further enhance the bioavailability of the nutrients.
· Customer Reviews and Testimonials
Another valuable aspect to consider when determining the best liquid multivitamin is to peruse customer reviews and testimonials. Online platforms, forums, and social media can provide insights into the experiences of other users. Pay attention to reviews that highlight positive results, effectiveness, and overall satisfaction with the product. However, bear in mind that individual experiences may vary, so it's crucial to consider a wide range of opinions before making your decision.
· Consultation with Healthcare Professionals
While conducting your research, it's always advisable to consult with healthcare professionals such as doctors or registered dietitians. They can offer personalized guidance based on your specific nutritional needs, medical history, and any potential interactions with medications or existing conditions. Their expertise will help you navigate the vast array of options and select the best liquid multivitamin that aligns with your health goals.

Wellness factors we expect to trend in 2023
As the first PR firm to focus on wellness, we’re not just looking back at the last year, we’re reflecting on the past three decades and watching the focus on health move from habit to lifestyle. There isn’t a major health trend that has impacted the 21st century that Trent & Company hasn’t been a part of. People are more health conscious than ever, and we are able to have a real conversation about wellness.
Exosomes – You may have already heard about these cell communicators thanks to Kim Kardashian’s latest facials. We’re going to hear a lot more about them in 2023, especially related to hair loss, another issue that will continue to trend and be normalized this year. Exosomes can break the blood-barrier making them more ideal than stem cells.
Liposomes - Dietary supplement formulations are becoming more sophisticated. By nature, many supplement ingredients require high doses and have slow onsets of action. As both brands and consumers recognize this, in addition to consumers wanting more convenient solutions, they seek ingredients with enhanced bioavailability. Specialized technology now exists to create technically advanced structured vesicles. This structure and these characteristics provide liposomes with specially targeted delivery advantages.
Synbiosis – Like the environment, our internal microbiomes are messed up. While probiotics are believed to be one of the best ways to improve gut health, research suggests that when taken on their own, they are inefficient. To truly improve gut function, a combination of pro- and prebiotics, termed synbiotics is required. Achieving it helps everything from bloat to brain fog.
Animal byproducts – From goat’s milk to bees wax, we’re soaking up the skincare benefits of these natural, bioactive ingredients, especially sensitive skin. Fresh goat’s milks for example contains fatty acids that gently clean while naturally exfoliating, moisturizing and balancing the skin’s pH levels. It is rich in fat-soluble vitamin A, B-complex, D and Vitamin E. Because goat’s milk is naturally high in cholesterol and fatty acids, it promotes better water retention, which maintains the skin’s moisture and creates healthy skin tone and texture you can see immediately.
Animal domestication – Humans are spending more on their animal companion’s nutrition and grooming than they do on themselves including luxuries like indoor bathrooms, nutrient dense shampoos, supplements and gourmet foods.
Pulsing – Switching up routines and introducing variety in nutrition, supplements, skin care and fitness not only prevents burnout, but keeps us interested and motivated as well. Drinking your skincare or layering serums gives your skin access to more useful ingredients needed without getting too used to their effects.
Eliminating little wastes – Avoiding tea bags, and opting for aluminum water bottles and bar soaps are tiny actions that will add up to big progress as we keep up our healthy habits in 2023.
Organ health – There are internal, external and mental organs, 11 of them in fact that make up the body and control our overall health. We’re going to see a lot more focus on ears, lungs, liver and other neglected body parts that are suffering from the world we live in as well as a focus on digital tech in the medicine world.
Zhuzhing – Food Network already called this one when they claimed no dish is complete in 2023 without a Zhuzh. Zhuzhing (jueje-ing) is the art of finishing food, so it’s ready for its closeup. We expect it to take on a life of its own as we’re already spotting “zhuzhing stations” in real life at food halls. Think latte art and vinegar toppings.
Proof – Social proof, media proof, expert proof – people try what other people tell them to and we’re all looking for validation on our discoveries and expectations. Gen Z especially is confronted with the choice between sincerity and irony. Try to shed a tear or get a laugh, either way, we’re all looking for authentic emotion this year.
Play – It’s been a rough, few years for our health, our minds and now our wallets. The importance of play and leisure time is being recognized. People are starting to see the value of taking time for themselves and engaging in activities that are fun and enjoyable, rather than just focusing on work and productivity. But when it comes to products and services, they demand more productivity: The demand for multitasking products that can help people accomplish more in less time is increasing. People are looking for tools and resources that can help them be more efficient and effective in their daily lives.
Prestige - The emphasis on quality over quantity is growing. People are becoming more selective about the products and services they invest in and are prioritizing those that offer prestige and high-quality experiences. Likewise, we expect to see more wellness in the value, dollar store channel.
Talk to us about finding your wellness factor and sparking a trend of your own in 2023. We’ll push you!

National Dcotor’s Day: ‘Coronavirus has brought the role of healthcare and doctors into prominence’
Prof. Jagat Ram, PGIMER director
“I would like to extend my cordial greetings to all of my respected teachers, seniors, colleagues, students, general practitioners and fellows. The celebrations for Doctor’s Day in India offer us a great opportunity to raise awareness of the role, importance and responsibility of doctors and also to encourage medical professionals to move closer together and take on the responsibility of this prestigious profession with full devotion, “said Prof Jagat Ram, PGI Director, and greet the doctors.
Coronavirus, he said, has brought the role of health care providers and doctors to the fore, with doctors at the forefront in the fight against Covid-19. “While most skilled workers were working from home, this is a profession that skilled workers have been personally recruited for work. Dressed in full body suits, doctors tackled the coronavirus pandemic head on, helping India through two disastrous waves of the pandemic for over a year and a half. The fight was not without sacrifices. India lost over 1,500 doctors to Covid-19 during the pandemic. Today is a day to remember their invaluable sacrifices in selfless service. But as the former President of the Indian Medical Association, Dr. KK Agarwal, just days before his deadly virus, said, ‘The show has to go on,’ ”he said.
Dr. Jagat Ram
Prof. Ram added that it is important to remember and commemorate the contributions of the medical profession to society as doctors have made tireless efforts to improve the general health of our country. “We should all strive to provide compassionate and affordable care to all, and it is important that we strongly condemn the attacks on doctors and health workers who are doing their best to save the lives of suffering humanity. When I look back on my four-decade journey in the medical field, the only memories that make me smile are those of my patients. I have practiced cataract surgery ophthalmology for most of my ophthalmological career, and I have found no greater joy than giving eyesight to a blind child for a lifetime. “
Dr. R. Gowtham Ram, Department of Hospital Administration
Dr. R. Gowtham Ram
Dr. R. Gowtham Ram joined PGI as a Senior Resident in the Hospital Administration Department in January 2021. Soon after taking over the academic management of the institute, Dr. Gowtham quickly found that the Nehru Hospital Extension (the dedicated Covid hospital) was almost full with 250 beds. It was a time when the nation was battling the second wave of higher mortality / morbidity Covid that affected all ages. Dr. Gowtham volunteered to offer his expertise in Covid management at NHE. “Despite the lack of oxygen supply and other critical drugs, we at PGI anticipated the criticality and ensured a smooth supply of these vital elements. Our employees across all categories have remained highly motivated and have increased our bed size from 250 to 450 beds. We then witnessed the wave of mucormycosis which added to the complexity. We have set up a separate ward for these patients and made sure that the OT staffing and the supply of essential drugs such as liposomal amphotericin B goes smoothly. In addition, we have made sure that our Covid vaccination campaign is on the right track. All of our employees have been trained and motivated to prepare for new challenges as we continue this journey. I am very blessed and thank my superiors and all my team members for their tireless support, which drives us to ensure better patient care, ”said Dr. Gowtham.
Dr. Tukaram, Department of Internal Medicine
Dr. Tukaram
“I am proud to be part of the PGI NHE team and to work for the benefit of patients from the surrounding five to six states. I thank my teachers, colleagues and juniors for dealing with me in this difficult situation. Although it is a difficult experience for all of us, we are all well prepared now, ”says Dr. Tukaram, Department of Internal Medicine, PGI.
Dr. Tukaram says the initial belief that Covid-19 affects older people more is no longer true, as many young people without comorbidities have serious illnesses and many succumb to it. “We all know that new variants pop up from time to time that make treatment more difficult. As long as the pandemic continues and the virus continues to spread, its variants are likely to come. So if we want to stop the variants, we have to stop the virus. But the basic precautions are the same regardless of the strain, and the vaccines we have can still protect against the different variants, and the immune response we get from the vaccines is much stronger than the body’s own natural immunity. The third wave is predicted by experts, but we can all prevent / control it by following basic precautions, ”adds Dr. Tukaram added.
Dr. Tamvir, Department of Anesthesia
Dr. Tamvir
“I was always seen by my medical-surgical brotherhood as an all-rounder in the operating room, but I was seldom as well known to patients as all anesthetists. I also worked behind the scenes. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has given me a new identity in the form of a Covid warrior and has redefined the roles and responsibilities of healthcare providers like me around the world, “says Dr. Tamvir, Department of Anesthesia, PGI. Clad in personal protective equipment, the doctor says she is even more unrecognizable to her patients now, but the hope she sees in her eyes as she manages her airways, oxygenates them, ventilates them, and the warmth they get when they discharge feels they are going home is comparable to the belief that a devotee has in the higher power. “The hugs I don’t get from my 9-year-old son when I’m on the Covid service, the fear I see in my mother’s eyes and the silence on my father’s wrinkled lips are worth a lifetime, that is rescued in the Covid intensive care units. The best decision of my life was to become an anesthetist and I am waiting for the decision to boomerang when my son chooses his medical specialty, ”smiles Dr. Tamvir.
Dr. Kapil Goyal, Department of Virology
As an associate professor at the Department of Virology at the PGI, Dr. Kapil Goyal as part of the Covid-19 diagnostic team. Dr. Goyal played a key role in setting up Covid 19 diagnostics at the institute. The laboratory began testing approximately 50 samples per day and increased its capacity to 2,000 samples per day. The laboratory was recently identified as a high throughput test laboratory by the Department of Health Research and will test up to 4,000 to 5,000 samples per day if necessary.
Dr. Kapil Goyal
“This lab provided 24-hour services for both Gene Xpert and real-time PCR for Covid-19, and credit goes to my colleagues and staff who have worked day and night to set the work protocols for high throughput testing,” says Dr. Goyal who received Quality Management Systems training in the Victoria’s Infectious Disease Laboratory. He emphasizes that the main motto of the laboratory is to provide a quality service so that the quality of the tests performed can meet international standards.
Dr. Goyal says this lab is prepared for any other pandemics in the future and will also be prepared to run additional molecular tests to improve patient care at the institute.
Dr. Vikas Sharma, chief physician dermatologist
Dr. Vika’s Sharma
Since the beginning of Covid-19, the challenges of operating OPDs and OTs have been in the foreground. While the PGI and GMCH OPDs were closed, ours at the National Skin Hospital was open throughout the pandemic, ”says Dr. Vikas Sharma, senior dermatologist at the National Skin Hospital. Dr. Sharma says he started seeing cutaneous signs of Covid during the pandemic as some signs appeared earlier than classic symptoms.
“Vesicular eruptions occurred earliest in the course of Covid-19, before other symptoms in 15 percent of cases; these developed on the trunk and extremities, were most common in middle-aged adults, and typically lasted about ten days. In contrast, the much-noticed Pseudo-Chilblains eruption occurred later. Almost two-thirds (59 percent) of patients developed these lesions after other symptoms. Pseudo-Chilblain Akrale lesions correlated with a milder course of the disease and a younger patient age. However, livedo and necrosis indicated more severe Covid disease and a poor prognosis. The challenges and insights continue, ”adds Dr. Sharma added.

8 Key Vitamins for Beautiful Skin and Optimal Health
There are many vitamins your skin and your body need to be healthy and vibrant. In this article I will focus on 8 key nutrients.
Your skin is a reflection of your overall health and well-being.
The vitamins and nutrients that will help your skin look it’s best also make the rest of your body work its best. What’s good for the skin is good for the rest of the body and vice versa. If your skin is showing signs of aging, this is more than an issue of personal vanity. External aging and internal aging are intimately related. Poor skin can be a sign of poor health.
So today I want to talk a bit about the intimate relationship between your skin and the rest of the body. Along the way we will cover some steps you can take to turn back the hands of time, reverse the effects of aging, and get that younger, tighter, glowing skin you’ve always dreamed of.
Skin Science 101
Your skin is one of the largest and most important organs in your body. Unfortunately, most of us simply don’t give our skin the support it needs so it can function at its best.
You see, the cells in the outer layer of your skin—the epidermis—divide continuously, which means they need a lot of nutritional support. The deeper layers—the dermis—are made up of the collagen and elastin proteins, which also need plenty of support and are often undernourished by the standard American diet and lifestyle.
Skin aging is a complex biological phenomenon that consists of two independent and biologically distinct processes: intrinsic aging and extrinsic aging.1
Intrinsic aging, as its name suggests, comes from within. It is the type of damage that affects any cell in the body. One of the primary causes are free radicals which cause oxidation (rusting) of cell membranes, DNA, and so on. To combat this type of oxidative damage, it is recommended you eat a plant-based diet rich in natural antioxidants. And, as so many of us are depleted of these natural antioxidants, supplementation can help as well.
Extrinsic aging is aging from without and refers primarily to “photo-aging”: the result of exposure to outdoor elements such as ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. Photo-aged skin often shows up as the classical age-related changes we all think of: deep wrinkles, sallow discoloration, and irregular pigmentation.
Photo-aging occurs because UV light from the sun is divided into UV-A and UV-B. UV-A damages the deeper layers of the skin while UV-B causes sunburns on the outer layers. Collagen in the deeper layers of the skin can also be damaged by enzymes called “metallo-proteinases” which are turned on by UV sunlight. Oxidation plays an important role in the way that UV light damages the skin, doubling your need for the crucial antioxidants that reverse this process.
Topical agents typically focus on antioxidant support to reduce the damage from sun and elements. This can help mitigate extrinsic aging. But having an antioxidant rich diet and supplementing properly takes this all a very big step further. Taking these additional steps can help both intrinsic and extrinsic” aging, giving you more bang for your buck.
So to get the most out of your anti-aging program, here is what I recommend:
Consume large amounts of richly-colored vegetables as close as possible to their original uncooked raw form. Richly-colored plants contain phytochemicals of which many are potent anti-oxidants.
Use sunscreen. This helps protect your skin from the effects of UV light.
Don’t smoke.
Consume moderate amounts of alcohol.
Supplement
When it comes to supplementation a great way to kick start your program is to try and IV infusion designed enhance collagen synthesis and protect your skin, like the Skin and Collagen IV Treatment at our clinic in Newport Beach, CA. It also provides your body a fast replacement of the nutrients your skin needs. This helps stop and reverse the aging process. Once your base levels of these nutrients are remediated, you can maintain them with oral Liposomal Vitamin C, Liposomal Glutathione and other supplements discussed in this post (see below).
There are a few key nutrients that play a crucial role in skin health. You should consider the following as you are creating a supplement plan for your skin and your overall health.
8 Key Skin Nutrients:
1. Vitamin A (retinol—the active form of Vitamin A)…
Vitamin A is required for maintaining many essential physiological processes in the body including normal growth and development, normal vision, a healthy immune system, normal reproduction, and healthy skin and barrier functions. In excess of 500 genes are thought to be regulated by retinol.
Vitamin A is beneficial in the treatment of acne, “liver spots”, wrinkles and rough skin. One study showed that 0.4% retinol applied topically had promising anti-aging benefits (2)
UV light depletes the skin of Vitamin A. So it’s clear why this vitamin is part of anti-aging and skin improvement formulas.
It’s always a good idea to test your levels of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants before you begin treatment. If you are low in Vitamin A, a good way to get your retinol levels up quickly is to take 500,000 units per day orally for 3 days, 250,000 units for the next 3 days, 125,000 units for the next 3 days and then maintain on 60,000 units. You also should continue to test your Vitamin A levels periodically as this is a fat soluble vitamin and can accumulate to toxic levels. AVOID VITAMIN A THERAPY COMPLETELY IF YOU ARE PREGNANT
2. Niacinamide (B3 also called nicotinamide):
Niacinamide helps with moisture retention in the skin. Topically, applied niacinamide (also known as nicotinamide) 2-4% is also an effective skin whitener. Nicotinamide, an amide form of vitamin B3, boosts cellular energy and regulates poly-ADP-ribose-polymerase 1, an enzyme with important roles in DNA repair and the expression of inflammatory cytokines (3)
Nicotinamide shows promise for the treatment of a wide range of dermatological conditions, including autoimmune blistering disorders, acne, rosacea, aging skin and atopic dermatitis.
In particular, recent studies have also shown it to be a potential agent for reducing actinic keratoses and preventing skin cancers (4). Oral nicotinamide was also found to be safe and effective in reducing the rates of new non-melanoma skin cancers and actinic keratoses in high-risk patients.
3. Dexpanthenol (B5)
Like Niacinamide, Vitamin B5 is also important in maintaining tissue hydration. It reduces cholesterol levels and inflammation as well through the production of Acetyl CoA. B5 also regulates keratinocyte proliferation.
In a study, topical B5 5% ointment was as effective as 1% hydrocortisone treatment in mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (eczema) (5). Also, giving B5 orally may help decrease facial acne as shown in a study of 48 patients (6).
There is no known upper limit known for B5 supplementation, and there are lots of protocols online of high dose B5 to treat acne. For example, 5-10 grams per day has been shown to decrease acne as per Dr. Leung’s protocol, but this is not a published study by any means. Some are reporting it as effective as the commercial drug Accutane but without the major side effects.
However, one possible side effect of high dose B5 to be aware of is that stool will turn green (from bile dumping), and this may be accompanied by abdominal pain and bloating. An alternative protocol to the very high dose B5 is to use a smaller dose of B5 and combine it with L-carnitine. This may be particularly effective in treating oily skin problems as B5 decreases the accumulation of fat/oil in the skin and L-carnitine helps shuttle the fatty acids into the mitochondria to be used as energy.
In IV form B5 can be used in high doses of 500-1000 mg per IV once or twice per week. B5 is already one of the main ingredients in many of the treatments in our IV Vitamin Therapy Clinic and we often customize and individualize each IV infusion to the particular needs of our patient. WE can add a high dose of Vitamin B5 for example to almost any of the existing treatments if in fact we feel it is necessary.
4. Vitamin C
Vitamin C, also known as Ascorbic Acid, is a very important antioxidant known to reduce the photo-aging because it protects against UV light damage. It also plays an integral role in collagen production.
Topical Vitamin C:
• Reduces wrinkling in as little as 2 weeks
• Decreases the activity of melanocytes, which means it is an effective treatment in de-pigmentation of the skin,
• Decreases skin roughness
• Is effective only if the topical cream has a pH below 3.5 and only the L-ascorbic acid form is effective so make sure to check the ingredients.
• Is available in concentrations of 3-10%. However, many get the maximum benefit from 20% concentrations.
• Rarely can cause rash and can be applied every 8 hours. It’s half-life is 4 days.
• Is safe to use with other agents like glycolic acid, sunscreen etc.
Increased intake of oral Vitamin C is associated with decreased skin dryness. When taking oral Ascorbic Acid I recommend using Liposomal Vitamin C which is a vitamin encapsulation technology allowing up to 90% absorption.
IV infusions with Vitamin C are very easy to tolerate and have the added effect of increasing overall energy and vitality.
5. Minerals
Minerals are important in skin formation and protection. Mineral oxides (such as Zinc Oxide) absorb UV light and protect the deeper levels of skin from damage. Of the essential minerals, selenium and zinc have been studied most extensively when it comes to their impact on skin. Both appear to be important in protecting the skin from photo-aging and free radical damage (8).
Zinc stabilizes cell membranes and is important in cell division. This can help in wound healing. Zinc oxide and Zinc titanium are commonly found in sunscreens.
Selenium plays an important part in antioxidant proteins like glutathione peroxidase (PHGPx) and Thioredoxin Reductase (TDR) which protect skin cells from free radicals. Selenium is also key in recycling the master anti-oxidant glutathione. Selenium is present in many dandruff shampoo formulations as well.
6. Amino Acids
The amino acids L-lysine and L-proline are an integral part of collagen molecule and collagen forms the base layer of skin. However other branched chain amino acids (BCAA’s) and L-Glutamine may also play a role in collagen formation. UV Light exposure decreases the formation of new collagen and needs to be counteracted. Supplementing with key amino acids may help reverse this process. In one animal study (9) BCAA’s, L-Glutamine and proline administered orally were able to increase collagen synthesis which was initially decreased by using UV light exposure.
7. Glutathione
Glutathione is a major antioxidant in the body and plays a critical role in Phase II detoxification pathways in the body. This means it inactivates toxic molecules like heavy metals and makes them more water soluble, so that the kidneys can then flush them out.
Glutathione also has a reputation for skin whitening (10). Importantly, it inhibits melanin formation (melanin is the pigment in skin) by suppressing the activity of an enzyme called tyrosinase.
A 2012 double-blind study of 60 participants taking 500 mg reduced glutathione for 4 weeks saw reduced melanin production at 6 different skin sites (11). In another double-blind placebo controlled study in 2014, 30 participants used 2% oxidized (inactive) topical glutathione for 10 weeks and achieved a significantly lower melanin index (whitening) (12) To be fair however, two 2016 studies dispute the effect glutathione has on inhibiting melanin.(13,14)
While there are no current studies on the effect of IV Glutathione treatments for skin whitening, we do know that glutathione has a protective effect on skin through its antioxidant effect and it is considered safe even in very large doses—much higher than the typical 600-1000 mg IV doses used in IV clinics throughout the world including our clinic, IV for Life, in Newport Beach, CA.
Many patients report an evening out of their complexion, better skin tone and moisture after IV Glutathione treatments.
When taking glutathione orally I recommend only using Liposomal Glutathione, as plain glutathione has very poor absorption due to destruction by bile and stomach acid.
8. CoQ10
Coenzyme Q 10 (CoQ10) may have positive effects on photo-aging, wrinkles, skin spots, dryness and tumors. This is because it is a powerful antioxidant which neutralizes the free radicals induced by UV light which are thought to be a major factor that initiate the up-regulation of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). MMP’s are enzymes present in fluctuating levels in keratinocytes and fibroblasts in the deeper levels of skin.
MMP’s damage the collagen structure of skin and degrade it causing a wrinkled, aged look. A 2008 study of topically applied 1% CoQ10 cream found that the subjects had a significant reduction of wrinkles, and it is thought that this was caused by CoQ10’s antioxidant action. In addition CoQ10 inhibits MMP production, protecting dermal fiber components from degradation, leading to rejuvenation of wrinkled skin (15).
CoQ10 is easily absorbed by mouth and can be very helpful in energy production. It is depleted by “statins” which are popular prescription medications used to lower cholesterol and should definitely be used in conjunction with these medications. CoQ10 is also available as a intramuscular (IM) shot or as an IV infusion at our clinic IV for Life.
By eating well, and taking the right supplements (along with the other lifestyle tips noted above), you can get that glowing, beautiful skin you have always wanted, reverse the signs of aging and enhance your overall health at the same time.

Vasayo: Don’t count on getting rich here [Review]
There are two reasons to start a business…
To solve a problem or to make the founders rich.
Which one is Vasayo? That’s the million-dollar question.
Vasayo is another nutritional MLM that swears their supplement will change your life.
They’re working off the idea that most supplements aren’t absorbed (which is true), but it’s doubtful their products are any different than the others already on the market, no matter how much they throw the word “science” around.
The MLM was founded by career direct sellers who ran their previous company into the ground. Can they do better this time around?
Time will tell.
FAQ
1. What does Vasayo sell? Vasayo sells nutrition supplements under the MicroLife sub-brand. Their products feature Advanced Delivery Technology (ADT), where nutrients are designed for superior absorption and delivery.
2. What are Vasayo’s most popular products? Their Eternal liposomal antioxidant super-blend gives you the antioxidants and polyphenols you need to fight the signs of aging. V-Tox is a food-and-plant-based blend of Fulvic Acid and cleansing herbs that detox your body on a daily basis.
3. How much does it cost to join Vasayo? Vasayo membership is priced at $239, $329, $499, and $889. Obviously, the more you pay, the more products you get in your kit. Then there’s a fifth kit, the Founders Package, which costs $1,495. Ouch! Even their lowest-priced membership kit is a bit steep for most people.
4. Is Vasayo a scam? It’s unlikely. But there are a lot of red flags. It costs more than average to join Vasayo, and their commissions are lower than average. The products and the return policy have already begun getting complaints. So while the business sells real products, it doesn’t appear to be structured for the long-term success of its distributors. And here’s something else to think about: They’ve been in business for nearly three years now, and there’s not much news about them (unlike big winners like Beachbody, when it was new). There are hardly any business updates, no financial updates. and only hard-to-find information about how to join. Sounds sketchy to us.
5. What is Vasayo’s BBB rating? B
6. How long has Vasayo been in business? Since 2016
7. What is Vasayo’s revenue? According to its founders, Vasayo generated $12 million in sales in its first month in business. [1] Other than that, we couldn’t find any numbers published online.
8. How many Vasayo distributors are there? No numbers have been published online.
9. What lawsuits have been filed? We didn’t see any lawsuits listed online.
10. Comparable companies: 4Life, Max International
So should you join Vasayo and start promoting their products?
Look, I got nothing but love for these guys, and product-wise, they sound great. But for sustainable passive income, there are better options out there.
Click here for my #1 recommendation
Either way, here’s the full review on Vasayo.
Overview
It was officially launched in January of 2016, so they’ve actually only been in operation for a few years. If you know anything about MLM, you know that getting in early is almost the only way to hit it big, but you have to hedge your bets on a new company and hope they do well.
Husband and wife duo Dallin and Karree Larsen founded the company, and it’s not their first. They’ve been in the game for nearly 3 decades and have experience building companies up to the billion-dollar mark.
Dallin Larsen is both the founder of MonaVie, which had a pretty good run, and the President of USANA. So he’s got some impressive names under his belt. MonaVie was around for about a decade (they retired from the company when it was acquired) and made nearly a billion dollars in just a few years.
MLM founders love to tell the “we came out of retirement to start this company” story, probably because it does two things:
Makes the reader think they must have been extremely successful to have retired at a fairly early age
Makes the reader think this new company must really have something special going for it if someone was willing to ditch retirement to run it
The couple tells Business for Home in a recent interview, “After having helped build two very successful companies in direct selling, Karree and I have decided to spend the rest of our days building a third and final company. We have every intention of leading this company until our last breath.” [2]
That’s promising, if it’s true.
Vasayo is based in Utah (of course). As of January, their products are only available in the U.S. and Canada, but they have plans for eventual international expansion.
How much does Vasayo cost?
The basic sign-on package costs $239. More involved packages (that allow you to make more money) cost $329, $499, and $889.
They’re also still offering a limited time Founders Package for $1,495 that gives you access to a 1% bonus pool.
To qualify for compensation, you also need to maintain 80 PV a month.
Products
Vasayo currently has five lines of nutritional products, all under the brand name MicroLife. Their products are all based around the science of micronutrients and “Advanced Delivery Technology” (ADT).
Basically, most nutritional supplements are only marginally effective (or not effective at all) because they way they’re delivered (combined with fillers, additives, and binders) doesn’t allow your body to properly recognize and absorb their nutrients.
Vasayo claims that not only will you not find any of these potentially harmful additives and fillers in their products, but they use micronutrients and liposomes to make sure that your body absorbs all of the nutrients in their supplements. Basically, these liposomes are like bubbles around the micronutrient made of lipids that are easily absorbed into the bloodstream so that your system can get straight to the good stuff – nutrient absorption.
The technology was created by Dr. Emek Blair, who worked on his Ph.D. at the University of California, Irvine and the California Institute of Technology. His work on lipids got him 3 fellowship awards and his products and formulas have won him numerous awards.
Their five product lines are as follows:
MicroLife Core Essentials – multivitamin created to build a nutritional foundation in your body
MicroLife Neuro – a supplement geared toward brain support and enhanced mental power
MicroLife Energy – a natural energy-boosting supplement
MicroLife Sleep – helps improve sleep
MicroLife Renew – anti-oxidant blend that reduces inflammation
Benefits:
Vasayo assigns a huge range of benefits to their supplements, including…
Improves metabolism
Lowers blood sugar
Enhances the immune system
Increases energy
Improves stamina
Relaxes
Protects from cell damage
As for the science behind their supplements, there is actually some research to support the benefits of liposomes in nutritional supplements. A recent study traces back to a number of experiments throughout the past four decades that have shown liposomes are an effective drug and nutrient delivery system. The study even claims that the use of liposomes is expected to boom in popularity in the nutritional industry within the next 5-10 years, so Vasayo might be ahead of the curve on this one. [3]
Side Effects:
So far, there are no known side effects associated with Vasayo supplements. However, they’re still relatively new, so it’s too early to tell.
That being said, although studies show that most people desperately need to increase their micronutrient intake, they also show that doing this through dietary intake (eating complex foods) is far more effective than using nutritional supplements in promoting nearly every benefit mentioned and then some. [4]
Compensation Plan
There are 18 ranks to the Vasayo compensation plan, which is a binary compensation plan requiring you to maintain two active affiliates (one on each branch) and one customer in order to remain active.
Retail commissions go up to 20%, which is a little low compared to some of the top-rated MLMs like Scentsy and Young Living.
You get introduction bonuses of 10%-20% on new personal recruits, as well as residual commissions on your lesser leg. They cap residual commissions at $27,500 per week (but good luck getting anywhere near that). You get paid $25 for every 240 GV accumulated on both sides.
They also offer matching bonuses, rank, and leadership bonuses.
Recap
They’ve got an actual product, and it seems to have some legit science behind it. That being said, it’s way too early to know whether or not their product will actually be successful.
Their compensation plan is fairly straightforward and transparent, but it’s nothing impressive. You’re definitely not getting rich off this company unless you get in early and make it to the top.
Since Vasayo just launched, now would definitely be the time to hop on board, if you’re set on this company.
But if you’re just looking for a way to start earning some side income, there are better options out there, even in the network marketing space.
I’ve been involved with network marketing for over ten years so I know what to look for when you consider a new opportunity.
After reviewing 200+ business opportunities and systems out there, here is the one I would recommend:

Research Confirms that Curcumin, the Active Ingredient of Turmeric, Heals Cancer
by Paul Fassa Health Impact News
Over 2,000 studies have been done over the past decade or so that indicate and confirm the ability of curcumin, the active ingredient of turmeric, to act as a healing agent for cancer.
The prestigious University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center's research determined, in 2011, that curcumin was able to create apoptosis in cancer cells that normally resist apoptosis, without endangering normal cells. (Source)
An earlier human clinical trial at the MD Anderson Cancer Center was conducted in 2008, involving 25 patients with pancreatic cancer, the most difficult and lethal cancer to put into remission. Their oral curcumin was not so bio-available, as blood levels were not commiserating with the amounts consumed.
Even with that poor bio-availability, two patients' tumors did shrink while the others demonstrated positive biological markers conducive to increased immune system activity against their pancreatic cancers with diminishing biological markers that promoted cancer's spread. There were no adverse side effects. (Source)
But it wasn't until the summer of this year, 2018, that the precise primary biochemical dynamic that made turmeric's active ingredient curcumin effective against cancer was isolated by researchers in San Diego with cooperating academic medical researchers in China.
Crystal Structure Analysis Reveals Curcumin Enzyme Responsible for Cancer Cell Demise
The actual study was first published online in the journal PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Science) on July 9, 2018, and put into hard copy print on August 7th of the same year.
The researchers used X-ray crystallography, a technique for determining the three-dimensional structure of molecules by diffracting X-rays from crystalized molecules to collect data for reconstructing the electronic density and assembly of atoms or molecules within that crystal. (Source)
The resulting report was titled: Ancient drug curcumin impedes 26S proteasome activity by direct inhibition of dual-specificity tyrosine-regulated kinase 2.
We need to decode that some.
26S proteasome:
… proteasome function is essential for protein homeostasis and influences the regulation of most cellular processes, and inhibitors of the proteasome have proven to be very valuable research tools and therapeutic agents that have prolonged the lives of thousands of patients with multiple myeloma. (Source with details)
Dual specificity tyrosine phosphorylation regulated kinase 2 as DYRK2:
A gene on chromosome 12q15 [which is found in several types of cancer tumors] that encodes a dual specificity kinase involved in the control of mitotic transition and the regulation of cellular growth and/or development by phosphorylation of … [several genetic, protein components, and enzymes with cells]. (Source)
From the study's text:
In the current study, we provide evidence that curcumin is a specific and potent inhibitor of DYRK2 and regulates the proteasome activity via DYRK2 inhibition. Cocrystal structure of curcumin with DYRK2 reveals that curcumin binds potently to the active site of DYRK2 via hydrophobic and hydrogen bonds.
Furthermore, curcumin was found to not affect the proteasome activity of cells with DYRK2 deletion.
Notably, curcumin treatment significantly reduced tumor volume in a TNBC mouse xenograft model, and the tumor volume was comparable to DYRK2-depleted tumors. The results establish that the inhibition of the DYRK2–proteasome axis is the primary mode of action of curcumin with expanded therapeutic utility in proteasome inhibitor-resistant cancer burdens. (Source)
The following graphic representation with explanation below is from the study:
Structure of DYRK2 is in complex with curcumin. (A) The Fo–Fc difference electron density map (2.5 σ) calculated before curcumin was modeled is shown as a green mesh, revealing the presence of curcumin. (B) Curcumin occupies the ATP-binding pocket of DYRK2. Curcumin atoms are shown as yellow and red spheres. DYRK2 is shown in a surface representation. (C) Detailed interactions between DYRK2 and curcumin. Hydrogen bonds are shown as dashed lines.
Commentary on the Study
Some pharmaceutical industry compounds have already been developed to inhibit DYRK2, but they create toxic side effects. The researchers acknowledged pharmaceutical drugs' toxic side effects and intended to look for a safer substitute.
They already knew that curcumin can play a solid role in conquering cancers, even if relegated only to serve as an adjunct, and that it was a safe compound used for both cuisine and medical purposes for over 2,000 years.
It has been used with certain chemotherapeutic drugs as an adjunct, resulting in less damage to non-cancerous cells and increased efficacy with tumor cells.
It was commonly considered that curcumin would not be effective for cancer by itself due to its limited bio-availability when consumed orally. It's known that curcumin's bio-availability is hampered by digestive gastric juices and these researchers also claim that curcumin is expelled from the bloodstream too rapidly as well.
The UC San Diego researchers confided to Science Daily:
“Our primary focus is to develop a [pharmaceutical] chemical compound that can target DYRK2 in patients with these cancers”, explained UC San Diego professor Jack E. Dixon, Ph.D.
“In general, curcumin is expelled from the body quite fast,” added UC San Diego pharmacologist Sourav Banerjee.
“For curcumin to be an effective drug, it needs to be modified to enter the bloodstream and stay in the body long enough to target the cancer. Owing to various chemical drawbacks, curcumin on its own may not be sufficient to completely reverse cancer in human patients.” (Source)
This strongly suggests that the results of this research are meant to be exploited by Big Pharma and mainstream oncology for financial benefits while creating harm from side effects to patients with patented synthetic molecules that offer negligible health benefits at very high prices.
How You Can Get Optimum Bio-availability from Curcumin
Traditional techniques involve combining turmeric with saturated fat and piperine (the active ingredient of black pepper) while cooking over heat. The saturated fat protects curcumin from gastric juices to allow its penetration into small intestines where it can be absorbed into the blood. Black pepper's piperine enhances curcumin's cellular absorption.
First, make turmeric paste using purified water and turmeric powder with a ratio of two parts water to one part non-irradiated, preferably organic, turmeric powder over heat. Stir until a thick paste with uniform consistency occurs, adding water or turmeric as needed.
Allow it to cool off. Then take whatever paste you want to make Golden Milk and heat it with the best whole milk you can find while stirring in a pan over low heat. Too many Golden Milk advocates insist on non-dairy milk, but you can watch their cooking and blending techniques on YouTube videos.
Add a dollop of virgin coconut oil with around a teaspoonful of freshly ground black pepper. Stir until you get a consistency that you're able to drink.
After refrigerating, you may have to warm it up some again or put it into a blender to liquefy the coconut oil that hardens when refrigerated. It's not rocket science. What's important is combining the key ingredients with heat.
There are other solutions that involve much less labor. Curcumin extracts are sometimes sold in enteric-coated capsules that protect the curcumin from gastric juices. They may also contain piperine. Those are the best types of convenient curcumin supplements sold over the counter.
You can also go online and find liposomal curcumin. Liposomal encapsulation technology (LET) not only protects the curcumin from gastric juices, but it also enables the lipid encapsulated curcumin molecules to penetrate fatty cell walls.
This is pricier than the other options. But it may be the most effective and convenient.

The results establish that the inhibition of the DYRK2–proteasome axis is the primary mode of action of curcumin with expanded therapeutic utility in proteasome inhibitor-resistant cancer burdens.

Liposome
Liposome Definition
A liposome is a closed, spherical lipid bilayer, which forms an internal cavity capable of carrying aqueous solutions. A lipid bilayer is composed of two sheets of tightly arranged phospholipids. These molecules have a hydrophobic tail and a hydrophilic head region. When two single membranes come together, the hydrophobic tails attract toward each other, while the heads of both membranes are attracted to the surrounding water. This forms a double layer of phospholipid molecules, which exclude the internal solution from the outside. The solution can then be transported with the liposome where it is needed.
A liposome should not be confused with either a micelle or a lysosome. A micelle is similar to a liposome in that it is a sphere of phospholipids. However a micelle is composed of a single layer and therefore does not have an aqueous interior. A lysosome is a specialized organelle in cells which separates caustic enzymes from the interior of the cell. While it too is similar to a liposome, it has many specialized proteins embedded in its membrane which help it function as an organelle within the cell.
How Does a Liposome Form?
Liposome can be generated naturally when tissues are disturbed. When tissue is damaged, small pieces of the cell membrane may become detached. The exposed pieces of lipid bilayer folds back on itself, encapsulating a small packet of whatever solution it forms in. This happens because of the hydrophobic and hydrophilic interactions between the pieces of lipid bilayer and the surrounding aqueous solution. It forces the ends of the pieces, where the hydrophobic core is exposed, to come together and create a sealed internal pouch. This process can be replicated in the lab.
Using a sonic wave generator, scientists can use sonic waves to break apart lipid bilayer membranes into any size liposome they want. The sonic waves carry energy, which pulls apart the molecules of the bilayer and separates it into pieces. These pieces are then subject to the same forces that naturally occurring liposomes are created by, and fold into the same shape.
What is a Liposome Used For?
Liposomes have been used as models, to study cell membranes and organelles. By embedding various proteins into the lipid bilayer, scientists can test the function of those proteins by testing the internal solution compared to the external solution. Studies like this helped establish modern cell theory. In fact, liposomes were named after lysosomes because of their similarity to the organelle. By studying non-living, easy-to-watch actions in liposomes, scientists were able to predict and identify the methods cells used to move and transport various chemicals. The actions of the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus, in packaging and processing cell products, is directly related to how liposomes interact. Cells simply add various proteins to the surface of their organelles, which direct and control the interactions of various organelles. These processes are now being studied, so that the targeted effect it gives organelles can be extended to artificially created liposomes.
On this front, drugs are being developed which have a liposome delivery method. For instance, certain cancer drugs are packaged in liposomes to be delivered specifically to cancer cells. The theory behind this method is simple. The liposomes are embedded with special proteins, which attach to receptor proteins on the target cell. Once this happens, a process is initiated and the liposome bonds with the target cell, depositing its contents into the cell. Research into liposome delivery systems is expanding into different areas including vitamins, minerals, and even gene therapy. By using targeted liposomes, even DNA can be delivered to specific tissues. If the DNA is functional, it can be read and the protein it encodes for can be produces. The cell can then begin to produce the protein and reverse the deficiency. This process may soon be used to alleviate various genetic diseases.
Other industries are developing liposomes for different uses. Because a liposome is essentially a small cell, it is biodegradable over time but can still carry an aqueous solution in a protected manner. Scientist are working on using this feature to develop liposomes which can carry out complicated tasks. Some of these application include delivering nutrients to crops using liposomes as small machines. If the right “machinery”, or DNA and related proteins, are placed in a liposome it essentially becomes a small living cell which can be programmed to preform various actions. While commercial versions of this are not in effect, much research is being done on this front.
Quiz
1. What is the difference between a micelle and a liposome? A. A liposome is made of a single layer B. A micelle has an internal compartment which can store water C. A liposome is composed of a bilayer, rather than a single layer
Answer to Question #1
C is correct. A micelle is formed of a single layer and has no internal compartment. A micelle is formed from chemicals like soap, which are both hydrophobic and hydrophilic. These tend to form small micelles, which can be felt as the slipperiness of soap on your fingers.
2. True or False. A liposome contains specialized enzymes. A. True B. False
Answer to Question #2
B is correct. Technically speaking, a liposome contains anything it was formed around. It could contain those enzymes, but does not have to. Remember that lysosomes are specialized organelles which do contain a variety or specialized digestive enzymes. While these organelles resemble liposomes, they are much more complex because they must interact with a variety of other cellular components.
3. How could liposomes be used to clean up environmental hazards? A. Impossible! B. Package the liposomes with enzymes to process the hazard C. Spray liposomes onto the ocean
Answer to Question #3
B is correct. Several research projects are being established around the idea of using specialized liposomes to clean up environmental toxins. For instance, if the DNA encoding for an enzyme which could breakdown oil were introduced into a liposome along with the machinery to produce the enzyme, the small package could survive a long time, continuously breaking down oil. An added benefit would be that the entire package would be biodegradable itself.
